Is Home Care Physiotherapy really Worth it?
Since COVID-19 and the crazy pandemic that has taken over our lives, home-based care may be the only option for some people. So the short answer to Is Home-based care worth it is: It Depends.
In the world of Physiotherapy, home care physiotherapy cannot just be executed expertly by any physiotherapist. The therapist needs to know their way around someone’s house and how they can fit the physiotherapy into their household and lifestyle. In-home physiotherapy can be very convenient and can work extremely well if the patient is self-disciplined and self-motivated. For those that feel anxious or uncomfortable of attending an Outpatient physiotherapy Clinic, home-based physiotherapy can be a blessing. For others, home-based physiotherapy may look like a luxury but sometimes the patient may have transportation limitations and severe movement limitations and so in-home Physiotherapy is their only hope.
The downside of home-based physiotherapy is that you will have to find somebody that has experience and who is willing to come to your home. The home-care physio will need access to a car or reliable transportation as well. Another problem that exists with home-based Physiotherapy is that the home environment may not be conducive to progress the patient enough in their short-term and long-term goals of Rehabilitation. For instance the equipment at somebody’s home will be vastly limited unless they have prepared prior to the home-based Physiotherapy. A limitation of exercise or stretching equipment may delay the ability of the patient to progress in their recovery. The final downside of homebased physiotherapy is the cost of paying a primary health practitioner to come to your house and help you with your pain and suffering. It’s definitely not cheap however depending on the company policy, the physiotherapy clinic may offer a discount for regular home visits.
